Can't Do Dips?

Can't Do Dips?

However, don't get too wrapped up in doing dips just to do dips - meaning there are a ton of great movements out there you can use for assistance work and still be awesome.

To Kill Yourself Or Not

To Kill Yourself Or Not

Question: I know everyone’s different, and guys like Walter are also freaks of nature. Just curious as to your thoughts on how “killing himself” like he did worked so well, when in reality it wouldn’t for most?

Sled King

There seems to be a theme lately with people who are hurt/injured and can't do certain movements. Trust me, I know your pain.

Grand Declaration of War

Grand Declaration of War

This message will be helpful for everyone, even if it's not what they need to hear right now. It may resonate with you years from now; or maybe this is something that needs to be screamed in your ear today... it sounds easy. It sounds almost ignorant; just about everyone who lifts weights...

Making the Hard (Exercise) Choices

Making the Hard (Exercise) Choices

I serve our country abroad, and am getting ready to go back overseas. We have a yoke rack, Texas/BC powerlifting bar, and lots of plates/accessories. The weight adds up, and we are dangerously close to our maximum allowance, the exceeding of which would be no bueno for our bank account....what do you recommend?

Massive Conspiracy To End All Weakness

Massive Conspiracy To End All Weakness

In the last 13 weeks I also purloined the framework from Jim Wendler to construct THE strongest version of myself to date. Following a program outlined from his book I've been able to go Beyond what was once the outer reaches of my capabilities in the weight room. The ensuing words are not to recap my woes in the pursuit of adding more lbs on the bar than I have previously, its a recollection of the mindset awarded to me by having done just exactly that.

Instagram Training Q/A

Instagram Training Q/A

A few weeks ago, I did a Q/A on Instagram. Keep in mind that I asked that the questions be short/answers short - like most people I find typing on a phone ridiculous and impossible to write 16 week training cycles.  So I tried to be as precise with my answers as possible while not being so damn boring.

Don't Mess With Texas

Although Law Enforcement Officers have more incentive to be in great shape/be strong, all of us, regardless of who you are/what you do, have no excuse to be weak and out of shape.  One thing I tell the kids I'm coaching is that it takes no talent to have great manners, have a winning attitude and be in awesome shape. Yes, some people will be genetically stronger or be able to run faster/longer.  But you can always be a better version of yourself. And not just "a little better".

Building Strong Kids - A 5/3/1 Testimonial

Your program is great but honestly, your message is WAY better than any grouping of sets/reps. There are a lot of Scheme Geniuses on HS sidelines these days. But the great coaches are those leaders who understand there is a hell of a lot more to the game than scheme. And at 43 years of age, I have learned that life is the EXACT same way.

Why Train?

Why Train?

I really have no goal or specific performance aspirations as they don't peak my interest. What I want your opinion on is, what is the reason for me to do this??  Am I just going to be a good "worker outer"?   I love lifting weights but at some point you have to ask yourself, what's the point?

Training Athletes - jimwendler.com

5/3/1 and Coaching Athletes

The most important thing to understand when training athletes is the difference between G.P.P and S.P.P. Also, it's important to understand that mastery in a specific discipline does not mean mastery in weight training. In fact, it is usually the opposite; master of one thing, beginner of another.  This is very lucky for you, whether you are a coach or an athlete.  What this means is that you don't need advanced or fancy training methods to achieve results.  Besides the huge pile of dung that is "sport specific training", the misunderstanding of training mastery by elite athletes is ruining training.

Bodybuilder Johnnie Jackson - 5/3/1 and Bodybuilding - jimwendler.com

5/3/1 and Bodybuilding

The main movement stays the same and keeps strength in the program. This allows you to progress from week to week and actually get stronger, something lacking in about 99% of non-assisted bodybuilders' routines.

Bigger, Stronger, Baseball

Bigger, Stronger, Baseball

I've known the author, Nick, for over 10 years now.  Not only does he like to shoot his meals and has passable taste in music, but he is a great strength coach. I've seen how his players respond and work for him. The difference between an average/good coach and a great one is usually communication. How does he get his athletes to believe in him and trust in his process? Is he able to get his message to an athlete without resorting to gimmicks or abandoning his principles?  NIck has this in spades. Now read up. - Jim Wendler '17

Deadlifts - How to Tug like a Pro

Deadlifts - How to Tug like a Pro

The following is an excerpt from the Jim Wendler Forum - it is in response to a question from a forum member that wanted to increase his deadlift.  It wasn't a specific question; more it was any suggestions that any of us had regarding the deadlift and how to increase it.  Additionally, he also had a question regarding being weak at the bottom of the movement.
