Wendler Correctional Facility

You don't need to spend hours every day on each of these things; a little bit of consistency over a long period of time will work wonders.  Not only will you learn something but you will also feel better about yourself.  You will feel accomplished and have a purpose. Be patient but be efficient; don't waste your life wasting your time.

Can't Do Dips?

Can't Do Dips?

However, don't get too wrapped up in doing dips just to do dips - meaning there are a ton of great movements out there you can use for assistance work and still be awesome.

Getting Surgery?

Getting Surgery?

My response to a question regarding recovery:

I don't know how your surgery/back problems relate to mine but I'm going to assume that they are somewhat similar. I had trouble training, walking, sitting, sleeping... living. I had severe nerve impingement, sciatic pain and massive leg pain on both sides all the way down to the foot. However, it did give me a good excuse to fly first class...I just told me wife I needed more room. More room for free alcohol.

Why We Train

Why We Train

If you don't have time to watch this, in short: because we are animals. Men are being declawed and our teeth are getting dull. Our bodies and minds were never meant to spend half of our day laying around and the other half on our knees.

Training After Being Sick - jimwendler.com

Training After Illness

1. I think people need to understand the difference between being sick and being ill.  Being sick and training is fine - being ill and training isn't.  I'm sure you've seen the multitudes of weak individuals who stop training when they are hurt; it's very similar. Being hurt and being injured are very different.  So suck it up and learn to differentiate between the two.

Why Train?

Why Train?

I really have no goal or specific performance aspirations as they don't peak my interest. What I want your opinion on is, what is the reason for me to do this??  Am I just going to be a good "worker outer"?   I love lifting weights but at some point you have to ask yourself, what's the point?

Anyone Can Find 2 Days A Week For Strength

Anyone Can Find 2 Days A Week For Strength

In a previous life I was military explosive ordnance disposal technician and approaching 40 I feel every mile run, bomb suit worn, parachute landing, and Afghan trail cleared.

Now as a father of two very young ones with limited time I believe you wrote the 2x2x2 program with me mind. Without a doubt anyone can find two days a week for strength.

Barbell Row vs DB Row

Barbell Row vs DB Row

Dorian Yates' back is the centerpiece of his insane, freaky physique, and the Yates row is one of the things he credits. Ed Coan's accomplishments in the powerlifting world have been well documented and if you've ever seen Ed in person, you know he's one of the thickest people to ever set foot in a weight room. And his 900-pound deadlift, to me, is the single-most impressive deadlift feat.

Now that I've satisfied all the barbell row zealots, the exercise does have its drawbacks. This is especially true for a lifter that's made significant progress in the squat and deadlift.

King Ragnar Lothbrok - jimwendler.com - Conditioning Queens vs. Kings

Conditioning Queens vs. Kings

After many years of running myself into the ground in high school, it wasn't until college that I realized how to properly condition. There is a trend amongst the natives that when you do conditioning, whether it be running, Prowler sprints/pushes, hill sprints, weight training circuits or whatever your poison YOU MUST STOP JUST SHY OF DEATH. This is the manly thing to do, right? No pain, no gain! No brain, all pain! (And subpar results!) You don't have to go all out - you don't have to fall to the ground, gasping for breath. It makes a good picture or YouTube video but what type of person trains for the camera?

You Can Out Train Your Diet - jimwendler.com Blog

You CAN Out Train Your Diet

It's not a popular sentiment to say this, but you can out train your diet. People have done it for thousands of years and people do it today. I have done it and I have seen hundreds of other people do it. It's just not popular to say that if you are selling a nutrition program, idea or fitness lifestyle.

Darkthrone or Metallica: Which Training are You?

I've been on a mission the last few years to get people back to the roots of training; to get back to when training was fun, simple, and most importantly, free of the fluff and crap that has polluted MY WORLD.  When training was about strength, about moving weight, and moving bodies. About being proud of an added rep or 5 more pounds. Where performance and kicking ass are more important than how you look. Where people eat to live, not live to eat. Where trucks are pushed and sleds are pulled. Where reps and weight are counted, calories are not. Where running isn't considered the Devil and you don't measure your workout by how much you threw up.

With that in mind, here's a list of some simple rules that we follow:

You Are Being Lied To - Jim Wendler

Saying of the Weak

"You have to find what works for you."

This is especially popular amongst the population that believes that squats, presses, rows, chins, and pulls DON'T work for them. This is because...
